Toddler Eat Your Phone?

Ah, the joys of a screaming toddler in the check-out line at the grocery store. (Of course, the “candy-free” aisle was also the one with the longest line…) You load up a game on your Blackberry or Droid cell phone and she pushes the keys for a few minutes, smiling.

Soon, the joys of blowing up little bricks with a tiny ball wears thin, and your toddler begins to chew on the phone. Goblets of drool form and drip from her mouth, making their way under the keys of your cell phone. (Did we forget to mention “teething toddler?”)

You think about taking the phone away from her — toddler saliva REALLY can’t be good for it, can it? Then you think, “She’s been quiet for a full 3 minutes.” And at least she hasn’t accidentally dialed your boss, right?

All’s well, uneventful and quiet until you get to the car and trade your cell phone for a box of animal crackers. Your toddler definitely got the better deal here, because the animal crackers are fully-functional and serving their purpose. Your phone? Not so much.

The screen is this dull gray color and when you go to turn it off and on again — nothing. Lesson learned: Yes, your toddler can break your cell phone just by chewing on it.

Cell Phone Protective Covers Save the Day

Water gets into the keys, makes it way to the electronics, and it’s all over. We’re not saying it will happen the first time your tot grabs your phone, but repeated exposure really can ruin a cell phone that’s not in a protective cell phone cover.

Save your cell phone from the dangers of baby saliva with a RingerWrap protective cell phone cover. Kids won’t want to chew on it — and if they do, it won’t damage your phone. They’ll still be able to push the keys, play games, and look at your photos. The only thing a RingerWrap protective cell phone cover can’t do is keep your toddler from dialing your boss.

What Should I Do If My Cell Phone Gets Wet?

Help! I dropped my cell phone in:

- the toilet
- a puddle
- the pool
- a lake or pond
- the sink
- the bathtub … and the list goes on and on.

The world is a wet, wild, and scary place for a cell phone without RingerWraps protective cell phone covers.

But it’s too late now. Your phone is wet. What can you do? Over the years, cell phone users have come up with a number of tricks to dry out a wet cell phone. Some work — sometimes. If you’ve experienced a water mishap and didn’t have your phone in a RingerWrap protective cell phone cover, it’s worth a shot to try these techniques.

1. After removing the battery and surface drying your phone with paper towels or an absorbent cloth, place your cell phone in a plastic bag with silica gel (the little crystal packets you receive with new purses, leather goods, and electronics — open the packets and pour the crystals in the bag) or even just plain white rice. The silica gel or rice should absorb a lot of the moisture. Let it sit at least three days before replacing the battery and trying the phone.

2. Remove the battery, hand dry the phone, and then apply heat and air using a hair dryer on low.

3. Let the phone sit on a south-facing windowsill in the warm sun for several days, giving it a chance to dry out. (Make sure the window doesn’t leak if it rains!)

When Bad Things Happen to Good Cell Phones

You might not realize it — but it’s scary to be a cell phone. Your cell phone faces lots of dangerous situations every day that can damage it beyond repair, crack its screen, wipe its memory, gum up its keypad, and a whole host of other uncomfortable situations.

Most people offer little-to-no protection for their cell phone as it goes out to face the cold (and wet!), cruel world. Most cell phone covers are not water-resistant and don’t offer much protection. A protective cell phone cover can prolong your cell phone’s life — and keep its warranty intact — so it can serve you better, longer.

Here are three common scenarios that can render your cell phone inoperable and possibly void the warranty.

1. Getting dropped in the toilet. Oops. You forgot your cell phone was clipped to your belt and — whoops — there it goes. Forgetting any squeamishness about germs, you grab it quickly and stick it under the hand dryer. Will it ever work again?

2. Getting caught in the rain… Cell phones decidedly do NOT like getting caught in the rain. (They’re not too crazy about pina coladas, either.) Even a few drops of water inside crucial components can damage your cell phone if you don’t have it in a protective cell phone cover.

3. Getting dropped in the sand. Your cell phone hates water; but it’s not crazy about long walks on the beach, either. Sand can get into the keys of your cell phone and make them stick, scratch the touch screen, or just scratch the casing, giving your cell phone that “well-used” look.

Keep your cell phone happy. Avoid these scenarios with a re-usable, recyclable protective cell phone cover from RingerWraps.

Protect Your Cell Phone Warranty with a Cell Phone Cover

What’s the fastest way to void the warranty on your cell phone? Drop it in the toilet or dive into the pool with your cell phone in your shorts. Sound familiar? If so, you probably know about “the little dot that reveals all.”

If you remove the battery of your cell phone, you will find a little white dot or some other marking, sometimes an X or a plus sign. When this dot comes into contact with water, it turns red. Some phone models have a dot that turns green or blue.

If you bring your damaged cell phone to your local store, the representative will check is to see if that “watermark” is intact. If it is, in most cases they’ll fix your phone or offer you a new one. If not — if your phone has been subjected to water damage, as indicated by that telling little watermark — your warranty is void and you’re out of luck.

Cell phones can break in a number of ways. But one of the most common is water damage. And your specially chosen cell phone cover designed to protect your cell phone from shock damage caused by dropping or banging is, in most cases, not designed to protect from water damage.

What’s the answer? A water-resistant cell phone cover from CleverWraps®. These handy, inexpensive cell phone covers are designed to protect your phone from water damage caused by rain, splashes, and brief submersion (like when you drop your cell phone in the toilet). RingerWraps cell phone covers are disposable, so if your cell phone cover gets wet, just toss it and wrap a new one on your phone. They’re inexpensive, too, so you can keep a supply on hand for your whole family.

Don’t sing the red-dot, dropped-my-cell-phone-in-the-toilet blues this season — protect your investment with RingerWraps cell phone covers.

I’m not a baggie!

Well here it goes….my first blog. My friend and business partner, Karen, wrote our first blog for our company, CleverWraps and it was wonderful to say the least! I have titled my blog, “I’m not a baggie” because our product, RingerWraps, are clear, disposable, protective sleeves for cell phones and not baggies! There, I have said it! We may have started out by putting our cell phones in baggies to protect them from sand, moisture, sunscreen, sweat and any other elements Mother Nature wants to throw at us but Karen and I had one of those Oprah “ah ha” moments.

It was a beautiful, warm day and there I sat at the beach in Del Mar, California with my girlfriends and all of us had our cell phones in baggies. As we were getting out of the water after a “first day of summer” swim many of our cell phones began to ring. Yes, our teenage children had hunted us down by technology. All of us were frantically drying our hands and ears so we could take our cell phones out of the baggies to answer our phones. Well there it was; the Oprah “ah ha” moment; re-tool the baggie to make it work with cell phones so you don’t need to remove your phone from the baggie! Just answer and talk! Clever indeed!

The strange part of this is, Karen, who lives 2,800 miles away in the Washington D.C. area was having a similar thought. There was a sudden summer shower and there she was stuck with her cell phone in a baggie desperately trying to dry her hands so she could remove the phone from the baggie to answer it. Oprah “ah ha” again!! I should back up a little and tell you that Karen and I had started CleverWraps 3 ½ years ago with a great little product called ReaderWraps. ReaderWraps are clear, disposable sleeves that fit over the temple pieces of reading glasses. ReaderWraps are for those of us who get our hair colored and don’t want to sit with chemicals on our hair for the 20 to 40 minutes it takes without being able to put on our glasses to read. Believe it or not; those chemicals may cover the gray beautifully, only to ruin reading glasses. Salons across the country are now offering ReaderWraps to their color clients. Coffee, tea, ReaderWraps?

Here we are in the business of protecting a person’s assets and therein lies the Oprah “ah ha” moment, RingerWraps! Yes, you never have to remove your cell phone from the RingerWrap to answer a call or text or even listen to your music and RingerWraps are completely recyclable. RingerWraps even let you browse your photos! The difference from the wonderful baggie is the 3 sizes to fit the majority of cell phones on the market. RingerWraps feature a zip closure and re-sealable tape for a custom fit so you can protect your cell phone from nature’s elements and life’s mishaps. Now the world can take a dip in the pool or ocean or have sunscreen on our hands or go skiing or snowboarding or any other thing we do and still be able to answer our cell phones when those teenagers are trying to find us. This is why I’m not a baggie!

Napkin Chronicles….the Journey

Protective covers for cell phonesFrom the beach to a bar……..

How did we begin writing business plans per the old cliché “on a cocktail napkin”? It all began with a walk on the beach, sharing conversation with my good friend, Colleen, and ending in an idea for a product called ReaderWraps. The next thing you know, CleverWraps is born and we are inventing products to protect eyeglasses, cell phones, eReaders, tablet pc’s….you name it. If you have a pair of eyeglasses needing protection from hair color chemicals or a portable electronic device like a cell phone or eReader needing protection from water, sand, snow, sunscreen, or whatever….the CleverGals have the answer! Yes, we are the CleverGals! 3 years after that walk on the beach, here we are….sitting at the bar at The Chart House in Alexandria, VA with my ever supportive husband, AKA: Marketing Genius, writing up our latest marketing plan on a cocktail napkin! Keep in mind; this is after two very strong, delicious mojitos!

It’s been an interesting journey. Two” fifty something” women reinventing themselves. Stay at home moms turned Tasmanian Devil Entrepreneurs! We have learned about patents, trademarks, polyethylene, polypropylene, adhesives, printing, recycling, packaging, heat sealers, trade shows, financing, order processing, bookkeeping, merchant accounts, websites…..so many things. We have had a college education (and then some) in these three years. We can talk to anyone about our products which protect your valued assets….from the little lady in Southern Virginia who isn’t quite sure which size RingerWraps to order for her friend who has collected numerous water and sand damaged cell phones, to executives of huge corporations in their gorgeous offices up high in skyscrapers from Nashville to New York. We know our business and we are passionate about it. We work hard and we never have enough time in a day. And now it is all coming together and we are going to achieve the goals we have set…..on cocktail napkins!

The CleverGals work from 3,000 miles apart. Colleen in San Diego, and me, in Northern Virginia. We spend hours a day together on the phone. We work hard and we laugh often and hard. Sometimes we are so spent, we laugh at absolutely nothing but the absurdity of our days. Good communication and excellent relationship building skills have had to be developed when working like this. We have found that without a doubt, the single most important factor and blessing in our business, are our relationships. Our relationship with each other (which, against all odds has absolutely flourished running a business together), and our relationships with the wonderful business people we are blessed to have met and gotten to know in our journey. For example, we have become truly, the best of friends, with Tom, our distributor partner, we never miss a chance to have lunch in Solana Beach with Phil, one of our advisers, and we always enjoy sharing a cup of coffee with Franz, our creative genius!  We have developed bonds of friendship with our vendors, investors, lawyer (!), bookkeeper, customers, hoteliers (from time on the road), our photographer, graphic artist, and those brilliant business people we have the honor of calling our advisers. So, it seems appropriate that a business built so solidly in relationships and social skills, would be outlined and planned, in the most social setting of all……while eating and drinking together!  Hence, the cocktail napkin!
